Martin Bresnick: Prayers Remain Forever CD from Starkland
“Martin Bresnick is one of the great pragmatists in contemporary music, a composer who will use any sound as long as it speaks vividly and makes narrative sense.”
- Alex Ross, The New Yorker

Now Available:

“A major voice” with “a catalog of vibrant, varied and respected works” (The New York Times), Martin Bresnick is the featured composer on this new “Prayers Remain Forever” CD. The album presents the premiere studio recordings of six recent chamber works.

David Lang writes, “this heartfelt, intimate, and very moving CD... is made of works that go deeper than what I was expecting, that become more personal. The pieces spring from the same territory as many of his other works, but they become somehow much more introspective, and they go someplace much darker. They are more painful, more mortal.”

The CD features some of today’s leading new music performers, including Lisa Moore, the founding pianist for the Bang On A Can All-Stars and “New York’s queen of avant-garde piano” (The New Yorker), and cellist Ashley Bathgate, praised for her “rich tone, fluid dynamics and imaginative phrasing” (The New York Times) and a member of the Bang on a Can All-Stars.

Erling Wold Certitude and Joy CD

"Best of Classical Music in 2012."
- San Francisco Chronicle

Now Available:

Erling Wold's opera Certitude and Joy, released by MinMax, centers on the 2005 story of LaShaun Harris, who was told by God to throw her three children into the San Francisco Bay, which she did, undressing them and killing them all in a brief ritual after a day spent in the city, sightseeing and eating hot dogs. The work is a “bold, heartbreaking operatic meditation on madness and religious faith [that draws] explicit connections between the infanticide stories of the Bible and those of our own day, and [finds] a probing musical language in which to express those ideas” (San Francisco Chronicle).

Starkland releases engaging, compelling recordings of experimental, avant-garde, electroacoustic, organized sound, musique concrete, alternative classical, new music.
